Frank Sargeson Memorial Lecture

The annual Frank Sargeson Memorial Lecture, hosted jointly by the University of Waikato and the Friends of Hamilton Public Library, commemorates the personal and literary legacy of one of New Zealand’s most important writers.

The 2023 lecture, to be held at 5pm on Saturday, 28 October, at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts, University of Waikato, is by publisher Fergus Barrowman.

Sargeson Prize

Sponsored by the University of Waikato and first offered in 2019, the Sargeson Prize is New Zealand’s most lucrative short story competition. The prize was conceived by writer Catherine Chidgey (who lectures in Writing Studies at Waikato), and consists of two divisions, Open and Secondary Schools.
